Thriving Metropolis

It has been 5 years since I first stepped foot in Quito, and it is great to be back again for a short period of time. While I've been confined by my work in the city, it has nevertheless given me a chance to walk about some more, get more of a sensation of how Quito exists as a city. It is similar to many other metropolises across the globe: crowded, noisy, and full of energy. Things are always on the move, people are always in motion, buildings are being erected on a daily basis. The planes whistle overhead on their approach to the airport, located in the center of the city.

Quito, while being nearly everyone's first exposure to Ecuador and is basecamp for many subsequent Ecuador explorations. There is also a tremendous amount of things to do and see in the area of Quito itself, from the colonial old town to the football (soccer) games to the parks and quieter moments. Take a moment and explore the city!

I've been to Quito myself. That Gothic cathedral you photographed is the "Compañía de Jesús".
