Gateway to The Hadramaut | Sunset over the Arabian Sea |
Al Mukalla, on the Arabian Sea coast, was founded in 1035 and is known as the gateway to the Hadramaut. It became an important port in the 18th and 19th centuries, trading with India and Southeast Asia. Today it is the 3rd most important port in Yemen after Aden and Hodeidah. There is not much to see here compared to other cities in Yemen. The old city has some nice white buildings and the coast and beach are very pretty in parts. |
