This area is one of the most important turtle-breeding grounds in South East Asia, and we came here to see Green and Hawksbill turtles lay their eggs in the sand. Only 3% of the young turtles survive so the project tries to increase this rate with money from tourism and a hatchery where the eggs are kept safe so they cannot be dug up by predators. Once the eggs hatch the guides, aided by tourists, carry the baby turtles down to the sea to help them on their way. |
