General Tips: Conwy
  • Tip Rating:

  • Fondest Memory: I love visiting Conwy - beautiful North Wales seaside town. Home to the smallest house in Great Britain. There are many castles in Wales and the one at Conwy is especially worth a visit. The towers can be climbed for some great views of the town and coastline - as seen in this pic. Its also not far from here to the Snowdonia Natiional Park where there is some great walking - when the weather is dry enough.

    General Tips: Britain's Smallest House
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: The smallest house in Great Britain 6 x 10 feet - once lived in by giants of fishermen! Seen on the harbour front of Conwy, North Wales.

    General Tips: Greatest Garden
  • Tip Rating:
  • United Kingdom - pin mill reflection Bodnant
  • pin mill reflection Bodnant

  • Favorite Thing: Bodnant Gardens in North Wales, situated above the River Conwy, with stunning views across Snowdonia, is one of the most spectacular gardens I've ever visited - including some beautful italian ones so thats saying something.
The gardens, begun in 1875, are the creation of four generations of Aberconways and features huge Italianate terraces and formal lawns on its upper level, with a wooded valley, stream and wild garden below.

Fondest Memory: My fondest memory from a recent trip is of the Labernum arch (in bloom from mid May to early June) the colourful magnolias and camellias and reflections of course in the ponds and lakes - especially the pin mill as shown in this pic :-))

General Tips: Betws-y-Coed is North Wales'...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: Betws-y-Coed is North Wales' most popular inland resort. It is where the River Conwy meets its three tributaries flowing from the west, the Llugwy, the Lledr and the Machno. This victorian town is the principal village of the Snowdonia National Park.

Not far from here are Swallow Falls - where the river rushes down from the mountains. Crags and jagged rocks divide the stream into a number of foaming cascades.

    General Tips: Boat Museum
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: This unique ward winning canal museum in Ellesmere Port has the world's largest floating collection of inland waterways craft.
The site covers over 7 acres of the historic canal port and dock buildings, housing the collection which includes over 5,000 objects ranging from large boats to canal company buttons, all helping to tell the story of canals and the people who worked on them.

Of particular interest is a row of dock workers cottages from 1833 which charts the domestic changes therein from 1840 to 1950. Typical games from that era can also be played.

    General Tips: Blue Planet Aquarium
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: This is the UK's largest aquarium attraction, with two floors of interactive displays, one of Europe's largest collections of sharks and an underwater walkway tunnel which is fascinating to walk through.Various special events take place throughtout the year, for example Santa dives at Christmas and having photos of yourself taken with the snakes if you dare.

Address: Longlooms Road, Cheshire Oaks, Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, CH65 9LF
Junction 10 M53, follow brown tourism signs.
Opening Times: Every day from 10am - 6pm.
Admission price £8.50 adults, family tickets available.
    Telephone Number: 0151 357 8800
    Fax Number: 0151 356 7288

Fondest Memory: The self-guided tour takes you on a voyage of discovery from the misty Scottish highlands, down the mighty Amazon, across the depths of Lake Malawi finally emerging through steamy coastal mangroves and crashing surf of rocky shores, into the colourful splendour of a shark inhabited Caribbean reef.

You can have fun interacting with the sea life in the touch pools and dives with the sharks can also be arranged. It that seems a bit scary then just watching them being fed by the divers is amazing....those stingrays are really greedy and virtually envelop the divers who have to push them away to give the other fish (100's of species) a chance to feast.
I was also fascinated with the seahorses, could have watched them for hours.

    General Tips: Newquay
  • Tip Rating:

  • Fondest Memory: Its quite a trip from our home in the NW of England right down to Cornwall but we managed it once on a short coach trip and stayed in Newquay. Once a prosperous pilchard fishing village Newquay is now a thriving cornish sea-side resort and the capital of England's surfing population with 11 beaches stretching over seven miles of golden sand. The town itself has its typical tourist trappings - arcades, tacky souvenirs and kiss me quick hats, fish and chips etc...but head out to the coast and enjoy those golden beaches and great coastal scenery.
More info and pics on my Newquay page.

    General Tips: Mevagissey
  • Tip Rating:

  • Fondest Memory: To see a traditional - one of the few remaining - fishing village on the south coast of Cornwall then Mevagissey is the place to go. Wander around its narrow streets and harbour with its colourful fishing boats and yes have more Fish'n'Chips!
See more of this qauint old pirate village on my Mevagissey page

    General Tips: Garden of Eden
  • Tip Rating:

  • Fondest Memory: No not the biblical one but the one with the giant greenhouse biomes down on the Cornish coast. Not having a garden at home I'm not big into plants and don;t know much about them so I was surprised just how much I enjoyed the Eden Project near St Austell in Cornwall. An imagnitive mix of plants and artwork in those amazing Biomes. Its a major tourist attraction now and one that will constantly evolvve and develop over the seasons.
Check out my Eden Project page for more info.

Sounds like a fun time. I would have enjoyed it BEFORE making the plunge but now life is a lot more simple. :)

Ah :-) a lot of places to follow your footsteps if I come to UK next year or so. Definitely Wales and Scotland - as "usual" - wherever I can hike around and enjoy this gorgeous landscape. Ohh thanks for the lighthouses :-))
