Discovering Fribourg was an accident. It was an overcast day in Lausanne - no mountains to see today so with Swiss pass and train time-table in hand I looked to see where we could go and Fribourg was the answer. What a gem of a find. This city possesses an astonishing variety of architecture. The protected old town area - the most extensive in Europe - includes some 200 Gothic houses, numerous mansions combining German baroque and French classicism as well as churches and many monuments. |
