Not traffic free like neighbouring Wengen but there are plenty of places to escape from the crowds. Its an excellent centre for hiking of all levels...there's more to see here than the train journey further up the Eiger to the Jungfrau "Top of Europe" attraction.
Many of the walks are prepared for winter hikers too....always popualr is the path to the Bachalpsee - beautiful in the summer too.
There are some great runs from Mannlichen down to Grindelwald and from First back down to Grindelwald. Me I just like to stop and admire the view of the Wetterhorn from the Mannlichen side.
- Pros:great centre for hiking on the First
- Cons:Very touristic and busy in centre of town
- In a nutshell:summer and winter touist resort

Warm apple fritter's sound pretty good to enjoy after a trek!
hi sandy,am heading 2grindelwald in xmas this year. wondering if u noticed chalet abendrot? also good restaurant for xmas dinner. will be with family group some kids so would hve to be child friendly. any advice would be much appreciated. thanks. sparkies
