"Meiringen - Sherlock Holmes Town" Top 5 Page for this destination Meiringen by sandysmith

Meiringen Travel Guide: 76 reviews and 184 photos

A small market town in the Hasli valley with plenty of facilities, yet unspoilt and very Swiss.

You cannot miss the significance of Sherlock Holmes in theis place - his name is everywhere!
Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle loved Meiringen and chose it for the location of Sherlock Holmes's final conflict at the local Reichenbach Falls.

This place makes a good base for sightseeing in the Bernese Obeland being at the convergence of three of Switzerland's major passes, Grimsel, Susten and Brunig.
A superb integrated network of Cable Cars, Post Buses and Trains take you in all directions reaching spectacular locations quickly and easily.

Map of Area

The cable-car system soon wisks you up to the mountains for some wonderful hiking and panoramic views. Pick up a little leaflet like this one which gives an overview of the hiking paths and their lenghts and an idea of the terrain.

Cheers to the friends I met in Hasliberg

Many thanks to Elisabet (Rebibi) who allowed me to stay in her family home in Hasliberg. It was a cause for celebration before the VT meeting in Thun itself, to meet up with Elisabeth and her husband, Judy (JudyinPA) and Maryann a friend of hers. Cheers everyone...I enjoyed the champagne!

None of us can say thank you enough for sharing her family home. This was my favorite area and place to stay. Thanks for the coffee and fun we all had together.
