Saas Fee Museums

If the weather is wet then the small local museum will help to pass a few hours. Housed in a typical valais farm house there are fascinating pictures of the villages, the changes it has seen over the years in changing lifestyles and avalanches. Also there are room displays of olden times - kitchen and bedrooms and this old loom seen here.

The local bakery also has a small museum - not much to see really but once a week kids can have a go at making bread there.

Village Patron

A local preist has his statue in the village centre by the fountain and town hall. Father Johann Josef Imseng (1806-69) worked as a hotelier in the valley and as a mountain guide, bringing visitors to the valley.

Barns and Crucifixes

Typical of the Valais region are these sun darkened barns - they can be seen in Zermatt and the other Sasstal villages too.
This one houses the Saas Fee museum now on its 3 floors.

Many crucifes were seen on our travels too in this area - all of a similar appearance with the same decorations hanging on them - hands and nails etc..
