Things To Do: Kleine Matterhorn
  • Tip Rating:
  • From the south end of Zermatt village, cable cars run to Furi and on up to Trockener Steg (2939m), overlooking the gigantic Theodulgletscher, which slides over the Italian border at the foot of the Matterhorn. From Trockener Steg, another cable car runs up to the crest of the Klein Matterhorn – at 3820m, this is the highest cable-car station in Europe, and there’s an ice palace and other bits and bobs on top. From Furi, though, the cable car up to the little Schwarzsee gives what is commended as the most picture-perfect views of the Matterhorn, at close quarters and reflected in a pine-fringed lake.

    Things To Do: Ice Grotto
  • Tip Rating:
  • Have a peek in the ice grotto palace at the top of the Kleine Matterhor. Many ice sculptures are on display. Wear suitable footwear, although rubber mats are laid down it can be a bit slippery.

Things To Do: Klein Matterhorn Viewpoint 1
  • Tip Rating:
  • At the Klein Matterhorn there is a marvellous viewing platform for the amazing peaks around. Take slow steps up here though the air is thin and every 2 steps up the stairs to the terrace I had to stop for breath and stop myself from feeling dizzy.

This is the view of the Matterhorn from here....doesn't it look different from this angle!

  • There is a huge cross up with a wonderful text declaring the wonderful creation of our God - very fitting for such a fantastic view.

Things To Do: View across to Gornegrat
  • Tip Rating:
  • From Kleine Matterhorn you also have a good view across to Gornegrat where the cog railway goes up. The prominent rock sticking up is the Riflehorn.

Sandy, fabulous page about Zermatt. I especially like your photos of the mountain lakes as we have been at most of them as well. I can't believe that you met Mr Ulrich Inderbinden. I only saw the fountain in the Hinterdorf which commemorates him.
