Most hotels are outside the walls of Dubrovnik and several are based on the Lapad Peninsula or Babin Kuk, some 3-4 km outside the city of Dubrovnik. This is not a problem as a regular bus service (every 10-15 mins from early morning to midnight) connects Lapad with the old city. We stayed at Argosy Hotel on a late deal and enjoyed our stay here. The President and Neptune Other Hotels are in this area too - just a short stroll away - all enjoying a park setting and lovely views over the Elaphati Islands and lovely sunsets too. The hotel itself is spread around - although all linked. We nicknamed it the "Crossroads Motel" - if that doesn't mean anthing to you don't worry and if you do know than don't tell!
Unique Qualities: Rooms were comfortable, well planned with plenty of wardrobe space and space for suitcases, mini-bar air-conditioned, satellite TV and modern bathrooms with hairdryers. Rooms cleaned everyday and towels too ifr required. Outdoor pool is undercover plus a smaller childrens plunge pool - our room overlooked this area. Our room didn't have a balcony but we did have a lovely view (see other pics) Really for a 3 star hotel it was really good. All meals were buffet service and always plenty of choice - including tasty and novel veggie choices.

Unique Qualities: This is a 4 star hotel. We did not stay here but were just a few steps away in the Argosy - part of the Babin Kuk Hotel Complex, populary used by tour operators. Spacious lobby and had nice bar area (expensive prices compared to the Argosy I noticed) and wonderful views overlooking the bay and across to the islands. The advantage over the Argosy is its beach/lido position with sunbeds facilities right on the front. The pool here is indoors - no outdor one but I suppose in summer months that is not a problem with the beach side facilities. The president also has its own boat landing stage - boas depart from here for the Elapahati Island Cruise.

Unique Qualities: The Neptun hotel is also part of the Babin Kuk Hotels - all linked by pathways and with the shopping centre and restaurants in this area. Makes for a pleasant place to stay and the sunsets from here are truly beautiful. The Neptun is a high rise building with views across the bay.

Hilton Imperial: Luxury and Location

Unique Qualities: Far beyond our budget to stay here, the Hilton Imperial is a luxury hotel with prime location just steps from the Pile Gate entrance to the old city of Dubrovnik. The second pic shows how close it is to teh city walls. Very few hotels are inside the city walls - I did ses one but was equally as luxurious and expensive. Rooms and apartments can be found in the city centre though if you really want to be right in the centre - although lots of steep steps will need to be negoiated with your luggage.
