Getting TO/AROUND: With Liverpool winning the Capital of Culture 2008 award many new flight paths are opeing up to the new John Lennon Airport - great setting right by the estuary! Many european connections are now available with budget airlines (Ryanair, Easyjet and VLM) eg. Dublin, Cologne, Paris, Brussels, Madrid, Barcelona, Antwerp etc.... Before 2008 I'm sure there will be many more too. STOP PRESS - Flybe has just announced it will be making a base here too - opeing up destinations to Scotland, Northern Island and Jersey with French destinations on the hoziron too. Plus Ryanair has announced daily flights to Milan from February 2005. Oh I do so need more holidays!! Not a huge airport but modern and efficient. A city express bus service links the airport and the city centre (Lime Street Station) - stopping off at some hotels too. Cost is £2 each way and will take about 20-30 minutes.

Getting TO/AROUND: This is a must for die-hard Beatles fans. A two hour tour around Liverpool of the homes, schools and birthplaces of the Fab Four aboard a vintage Magical Mystery tour bus. You will also see Penny lane and Strawberry fields. The prices are not vintage though - it costs about £12 per adult. Daily tours at 2.30pm start from the Beatles Story Museum at the Albert Dock complex and end up at the Cavern Club in Matthew Street.

Getting TO/AROUND: Take a ride on the Mersey ferries - the famed music by Gerry and the Pacemakers is tacky but its a great way to see the Liverpool waterfront which has been greatly improved in recent years. Indeed a 50 minute river cruise can be taken to enjoy the waterfront views complete with a lively and informative commentary which re-tells the history of Liverpool and its ferries. For details of times: http://www.merseyferries.co.uk/t imetable/index.html
Also available are themed cruises like rock and salsa nights. For those that are really keen a 6 hour cruise to the Manchester ship Canal, Salford can be taken.

Getting TO/AROUND: This hour-long trip begins on the road, taking in Liverpool's historic Waterfront, touring the famous sights of the City and ending with a “SPLASHDOWN” in the Salthouse Dock. All this in a DUCK - an authentic World War II landing vehicle. Tickets may be purchased on the day but you may also reserve seats on the day by telephone (0151 708 7799). Ticket price for 2003 was just under £10. We kept seeing this duckmarine all over Liverpool throughout the day - but by the time my camera was primed for action ...well this was the closest I got!

Gillybob Tue Sep 30, 2008 20:29 UTC Nice one! Have a good time! Gillybob greetings | King_Golo Tue Jul 15, 2008 16:30 UTC Hi Sandy, although it took me ages to click through all of your Liverpool tips, I must admit that this is a very informative page with lots of infos. I went to Liverpool this March and enjoyed it very much. A really cool place! | livermore2 Tue Sep 18, 2007 21:25 UTC Sandy, William McKenzie is sitting at his card table...with the winning hand. The church is St Andrew's-The Scottish Church | chrispeterson Tue Dec 5, 2006 20:38 UTC Hello You refer to the "3 Graces". I'm 50-something and I hadn't heard this phrase until a few years ago. It isn't a local, Liverpool phrase. Who started it? |
