"Parkgate's Pastimes" Parkgate by sandysmith

Parkgate was once a bustling port in the 18th century in the south of Wirral/Cheshire with tall ships leaving for Ireland - usually for the wars there. On a recent visit with Rosie (KennetRose) it suddenly struck me what a sad lonely and forlorn sort of place it is today. So many business were closed, premises deserted and now delapidated. The once thriving promenade is now bordered by marshes since the Port of Liverpool was dredged, the Dee silted up over the years and the marsh plants took over.

Still a bright but blustery October day with few people around made for a good spot of photography and an excuse for an ice-cream....thanks for that Rosie...mine was a cinder toffee flavoured one. Not quite the ice-creams of Rosie's childhood memories but still enjoyable eh Rosie!
