Visit to the Armenian Monastery

A visit to the monastery island here on this small island in the venetian lagoon - just a 30 minute ride from St Marks Basin and lying immediately west of the Lido. The monastery amd its gardens form the mother-house of the Mekhitarist Order (a christian catholic order) one of the world's foremost centers of Armenian culture.

There's only the monastery here to see and its only open in the afternoon - so don't visit in the mornings!

Pros:pleasant short detour from hustle and bustle of Venice
Cons:bit of a wait from afternoon boat for guided tour to begin

Still in the dark... Things to Do (6)

I'd read somewher that the grounds of the monastery had lovely white peacocks - well we didn't see any as the walkway... more travel advice

What!! No rides or pubs...Drats. Sorry Ma Kettle and I missed you that week. San Lazzaro might not have the same magic as Venice, but how many people can say they have visited a working monastry located in the middle of a lagoon? Pa
