Amalfi

by sandysmith - last update: Jul 20, 2003

Amalfi from the sea
Amalfi lines both sides of the steep Valle dei Mulini - the site of some of Europe's first papermaking factories. Amalfi was also the centre of a maritime republic which flourished between 800 and 1100, and had 70,000 inhabitants in its prime.
cathedral
Today it is the most well known resort in the Amalfi costiera area and although bustling with tourists its a must visit - notably for its beautiful Cathedral with its moorish facade.

Hope my first view replicates yours! It looks as if the path to the papermill might just be the favorite part of that adventure. Grazie for a lovely tour, Carol

Great place for a second honeymoon :-) It is becoming clearer and clearer that our only option is to move to Italy. We've just got to see it all!!! Thanks again Sandy...Tom
