Yes there is a pyramid in Rome! In a cemetry stands this monument of Caio Cesto a Roman pretor, tribune and a very rich man who could afford himself a sepulchre worthy of an Egyptian Pharaoh. It is of the best conserved and most characteristic monuments of ancient Rome. This pyramid was built in 12 a.D. during a period of 300 days, 27m high. Unfortunately it was Monday when we saw this and like most of the museums in Rome (except major ones like the Vatican and Colesseum) it was closed. To reach here take the metro to Piramide and you can't miss it!

This light house on Monte Gianicolo was a gift to Rome in 1911 by the Italians from Argentina and it is a work of Manfredo Manfredi. It is just a short stroll from Piazza Garibaldi. If you don't want to walk up the hill in the heat then take bus 780. You will also be rewarded with wonderful views over Rome from up here. Many thanks to VT'er Piccolina for directing me to this place :-))

The Janiculum hill was the scene of Garibaldi's heroic stand in defense of the Roman Republic against French troops. Hence his statue is a proud monument of the square here. Everyday at noon from the balcony of the piazzale can be heard a cannon shot giving a sign of the exact time. This tradition began in December 1847, when the cannon of the Castel Sant'Angelo was giving the official time of Rome and the sign to all the bell-towers to start ringing. On 24 January 1904 this custom was brought to Janiculum and continued till 1939 but restarted in 1959.

The square on the top of Janiculum Hill and the avenue (passeggiata) going throughout all the Hill were formed in 1885-1887 on the territory of the ex Parco Corsini. Numerous busts of the volunteers who took part in the defense of Rome stand along the road, making a pleasant walk to the square.

In this little square in the old historic centre of a Rome, ignore the scaffolding around the baroque church of Sant'Ivo, by Borromini, and look up to admire its unusual spire which is twisted like a wedding cake effect and the exterior walls are a mass of complex concave and convex shapes.

It was a warm Sunday afternoon, well for us tourists - many locals were still in their coats and scarves! Many people were enjoying the park and the wide open spaces, great for lazing around or a family picnic.
