Osteria Rugantino - Rome

Osteria Rugantino

Antica Osteria Rugantino: Cosy Inn in Trastevere Osteria Rugantino Review

An Osteria is a local neighbourhood Inn serving good roman cusine in plentiful proportions. We came across this one in Trastevere and enjoyed it so much we came back most nights. Well we always seemed to end up on this side of the Tiber in the evenings and there was a handy bus stop just nearby to get us back to our hotel.

Osteria Rugantino: Pasta Plenty Osteria Rugantino Review

Favorite Dish: The first pasta course dishes were the more plentiful. The mushroom canneloni, seafood lasange and various other pastas were all tasty and hot. There was set menu choice for meat dishes - I had steak one night and buffalo tail stew another - and also a seafood menu - for example pasta with shrimp and lemon, as well as a la carte choices. All looked (I always love to see what other people are eating too!) tasty and plentiful. It went down very well with the local house red which was a chianti.

Comparison: less expensive than average

Price: less than US$10

Osteria Rugantino: Same Again Please! Osteria Rugantino Review

Call us boring but once we found a place to eat we liked and was good we were loathe to risk somewhere else and be disappointed.
Here's a view of the cosy interior. There was also a covered terraced area which was kept warm at night by those gas burner stands that are popular in gardens now.

Cafe de Paris: Haunts of the Rich and Famous

Try spotting the rich and famous here...people like Sylvester Stallone have been here and Princes Di.
Typical of some Roman restaurants is that a glass housed section of the restaurant is located on the pavement - not sure I'd liked to be stared at by passersby as I ate though :-/
Funnily enough it was as we passed by here that a local stopped me, pointed at her fur coat, then my t-shirt and laughed at me!

pizza! - Rome

pizza!

Various local vendors: Pizza Please!

Of course slices of pizzas are so much tastier and enjoyable when eaten in a warm italian piazza! Spot where the locals go and you can be sure they are good.

Favorite Dish: This vegeatarian concoction of mushroom, cream and ruccola was divine...I know someone else who would enjoy this too ;-))
Potato and herb pizza slices where also a favourite of mine. Cost about 2 euros a slice
