Favorite Thing: The Baths of Diocletian were the biggest in Rome and had the same scheme as the Baths of Trajan and Baths of Caracalla; they could accommodate 3000 people at once. They were built in 298-306 by emperor Diocletian

Favorite Thing: The seven hills of Rome are: Palatine, Capitoline, Aventine, Celian, Esquiline, Viminal and Quirinal. Two other hills though gave lovely views of Rome - the Janiculum (see off the beaten track) and this one the Pincio where in the Piazzale Napoleon there is this lovely view over the Piazza del Popolo and silhouetted is the dome of St Peter's in the distance.

Favorite Thing: Reputedly the world's smallest inhabited island it connects the Ghetto area on one side of the Tiber by the Ponte Fabricio - Rome's oldest standing bridge - and the other side to Trastevere. It has been associated with healing since the third century and there is still a hospital here.

Favorite Thing: Although we didn't go in this museum - we just enjoyed the park around it - it is well recommended. Make plenty of time for it there seemed to be quite a queue to get in as there are timed admissions. Staues and paintings a plenty to found within

Favorite Thing: Trastevere is the quaintest part of Rome with its narrow alleyways and eateries galore. Its very popualar/lively at night and hence we chose to eat this side of the River most nights.
Fondest Memory: The rustic colours of this building with the washing hanging out just typified this area for me.

Favorite Thing: This is the main square in Trastevere and its lovely church has its facade decorated with the mosaics of the 13th century. It occupies the 5th place in the hierarchy of Roman churches after St Peter's, St.Paul, St.John and S.Maria Maggiore for its ancient origins as well as for being the first dedicated to Madonna.

Favorite Thing: Santa Maria Maggiore, the large church near to Termini is reputed to have the best mosaics of the churches in Rome. Unfortunately I didn't see that church as it was under restoration but the mosaics at S.Maria in Trastevere must be a close second - they were stunning.
