Villa Pisani and other Stra, Italy Things to Do Tips

Of course the main sight in Stra is the magnificent Villa Pisani. On the boat cruise this was our last port of call. About an hour is allocated here on the trip before the cruise bus returns to Venice but you do have the option to stay longer to visit the villa and its extensive gardens at your leisure and then make your own way back to Venice - buses run every 30 mins and take about 45mins.
Villa Pisani, is now a National Museum. It was built by the Pisani family of Venice between 1720 and 1760 to celebrate the election of Alvise Pisani as Doge. In 1807, the villa was sold to Napoleon

Villa Pisani known also as Villa Nazionale or Villa Reale and is located on a bend of the Brenta Canal in Stra. Its open daily:
Hours: April - September 9.00 a.m.- 6.00 p.m., October - March 9.00 a.m.- 4.00 p.m. Admission: 6 euros and well worth it. As you approach the entrance the huge stautes of the portico reallly catch your eye and has some lovely detail. A great mix of baroque and classical architecture.

There are so many rooms in Villa Pisani - some 114 rooms - many feature their original furnishings and are richly decorated with statues, stuccowork and frescoes. A day alone could be spent just on the villa interior. Among the artists who decorated the apartments , the most outstanding was Tiepolo, whose masterpiece, painted in 1761-62 th Apotheosis of the Pisani Family, dominates and graces the ceiling of the enormous ballroom. Unfortunately photography is not allowed inside and it is heavily montirored :-S..so not even a sneaky one here so instead a pic of the exterior.

After the villa apartments a pleasant walk can be taken in the fine gardens. The extensive park has many features to explore such as groups of sculptures, the coffeehouse, the exedra, the folly, the icehouse, the lemon-house and the grand looking building at the far end which are the stables, reflecting the proportions of the main house.
