Expensive - but hey this is St Marks Square, Venice and you may never be here again. Note there is a surcharge if the music is playing when you order - so get in before the musicians strike up!

Reputed to be the first coffee house in Europe.

Favorite Dish: Afternoon tea - a perfect place to savour the atmosphere here with smoked salmon finger sandwiches, scones with jam and crean and english tea.

Reputed to be the best restaurant in the lagoon. A popular meeting place for artists - the walls inside are covered with art work too.
Expensive but its setting in Burano anmidst all the colour waas worthwhile.

We enjoyed a simple but delicious Risotto - its speciality, flavoured with fish broth.
    Excellent service too.

if you can find this small osteria beside a canal in Santa Croce and can get a table you will not be disappointed. This place was recommended to us as a favourite of the author of the Venice blog - I'm glad he did and it was a memorable meal for our last night in Venice. Note its closed on Sundays.

Reservations may be necessary due to its limited seating. We got away with this as we sat down about 7.30pm but were asked to be finished by about 9pm - more tables were being put out then! (total seating of 30-35 people inside and out) Try to get the little table by the canal for its ambience.

Favorite Dish: Great veggie options here but we plumped for a turkey curry. I had courgettes served with mine - the vegetables dishes are lovely and different from what you'll find in the majority of venetian restaurants. Starters include usual pasta dishes as well as a creamy light pumpkin flan. Othe imaginitive dishes incorporate lamb, duck , goat and rabbit plus lovely vegetable side dishes.

This Taverna is so popular with tasty italain food, good quality and good value that we ate here 3 times on our latest visit to Venice. If you go later than half past seven you really should book - especially at the weekend - we saw several disappointed people being turned away as they were full. I especially enjoyed the lasagne for staters, the salmon steak with buttered spinach and tiramisu to finish with.

Favorite Dish: Good choice of pastas and fish - the set menu (normally which we avoid) tempted us and we were not disappointed. 18 euros for a 3 course meal - all delicious and generous portions.I especially enjoyed the lasagne for staters, the salmon steak with buttered spinach and tiramisu to finish with.
