Fethiye was known as Telmessos in the ancient period, being the most important city of Lycia. As a regional centre it continues to grow in importance, and marks the place where the Aegean Sea becomes the Mediterranean. Its a thriving, working turkish town and worth a visit.

The nearby lagoon beach resort of Olu Deniz can be seen plastered over all those turkisk tourist adverts - and no wonder - it truly is a gorgeous setting.

This part of Turkey is is an ideal place for lazy day boat trips, exploring those little islands with their ruins and swimming inbetween at places like butterfly valley.

Great page! I know so little about Turkey and I realize there is so much more to this place than I ever thought! I hope this place hasn't been spoiled by tourism by now, because it sure looks great when you visited it! :-))
