A little bit of Italy in Boston

by glo39 - last update: Nov 3, 2007

Happy Birthday to Me!

Excerpts from my BD invitation and IDEAS for YOU!

My Dear Friends,

I am well aware that when I treated myself to a trip to Italy as my birthday gift to myself this year many of you wanted so badly to join me over there.

Some of the reasons for that not being possible were:

“I don’t have my green card, so I can’t leave the country.”
“I can’t get the time off from work, I already used up all my vacation time.”
“I’ll be trying to find my way back to my parent’s house after a night of heavy drinking in Taiwan.”
“I don’t have any money and my credit cards are maxed out.”
“My patients can’t live without me.”

Well, I do so desperately want to share Italy with all of you as my birthday wish for myself. So with that in mind, I have put together an itinerary for the weekend of my birthday. The weekend is Saturday August 11th through Sunday August 12th with the 12th being my actual birthday.

Please come and join me. Andiamo!

SATURDAY AUGUST 11th
1.) Plan on taking the North_End_Market_Tour on Saturday morning from 9:00-12:00.

“Little Italy” in Boston is filled with history, ethnic heritage and authentic Italian food. The North End Market Tour is the perfect way to experience what our country’s oldest neighborhood has to offer.

The tour includes:

A three-hour walking tour of the North End markets
Tips on purchasing, cooking, and storing foods
Tastings of many specific Italian food ingredients
A handout describing the best stores and favorite restaurants
Historical insights into the North End community

2.) 12:00 Noon: relax with a leisurely lunch at one of the restaurants in the North End. I am hoping to obtain (wrangle is more my style) a recommendation from the tour operator.

Come down to the North End and be ready to tarantella.

3.) At 5:30-6:20 We board an authentic Venetian gondola complete with accordion player. That’s right we will be serenaded as we relax aboard the gondola. The gondola holds up to 6 people.

This 50-minute tour includes:

An accordion player
A basket of cheese and crackers, fresh strawberries and chocolates
Ice bucket, champagne and wine glasses (BYOB champagne and wine of course!)

4.) We head to dinner at Teatro at 8:30.

5.) After dinner we’ll be dancing at the Gypsy_Bar.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 12th

6.) 11:30AM-… Join me at 85 Newbury Street at L'Aroma_Cafe for an espresso (or 2), a pastry and the newspaper. Don’t forget your sunglasses to hide the sins of the night before.

7.) What tour of Italy would be complete without shopping? (Mine and my son’s?)

Let’s hang out and fall into a store or two and see what’s new on the fashion scene as long as we are on Newbury Street…

Your Boston page took me back home for a few minutes. I've not been back in years. I miss the history but not the winters.
