I visited Qatar in the summer of 1998. Once again I was traveling with the U.S.A.F. We were conducting joint exercises with the Qatari armed forces. On the second day that I arrived at the camp, the Airforce security personnel caught the snake pictured above. It was found within the compound. I don’t remember what kind it was but I do know that they said it was highly poisonous. The snake was put on display at the entrance to the camp as a reminder of the potential danger. By the second week, however, everyone was jogging, and walking all over the compound just to keep from getting bored. I think we all forgot about the snakes and no other incidents were reported that I was aware of.
