Restaurant Name: Koulen Restaurant
Our guide Neang suggested us to watch the local dance show in this huge restaurant. We had the reservation earlier to get a good table to watch the dance show. It cost me 12 USD per person which is a huge price in Siem Reap. A great dance show with "Apsara Dancers" satisfied us. However, the buffet food was not interesting. I managed to eat some of the stuff they serve, but my wife only took some nibbles. Last note: Drinks are not included in the price.
Favorite Dish: Nothing, but you should go there for the dance show.

There are many street vendors in Siem Reap Town Center. Mainly they sell noodles and some other types of food. They are quite clean and the food is delicious. Compared to the restaurants, you pay almost nothing for the food. If you stay a few nights in Siem Reap, at least leave one dinner to these hawkers.

I wasn't much impressed with this restaurant, but the service was friendly and fast. The touristic menu gave me the impression that this is the restaurant where tour guides bring their customers and get free food or some commission. We tried beef, saba fish and salad. The portions were not that much for beef and it wasn't good. However, the grilled saba fish was nice. We were there for lunch and in that hot noon time, Angkor beer was the best moment.

When we were travelling from Land Mine Museum to Banteay Kdei, I saw some local shops and wanted to eat there. Our guide told us that they prepare Cambodian noodle which looks like Singaporean Laksa with some different herbs and spice. It was very delicious and so cheap. That was one of the lunches we enjoyed most in Siem Reap.

betska Sat Sep 6, 2008 10:00 UTC It's a great idea to have a memorial for the killing fields in Siem Reap, as many travellers don't get to Phom Pehn to see S21, and the real killing fields. I'm enjoying your SR pages. |
