Beautiful, Secluded Camping: Look out for Bears! Beech Hill Campground in Twin Mountain, New Hampshire is a great escape. The heavily-wooded campsites provide plenty of private space, and if you're a wilderness lover, the location can't be beat. The Ammonoosuc River is just 100 yards from the campground entrance, and Mt. Washington (the highest peak in the Northeast) is only six miles away.
General Info The campground has 125 camp sites (both electric/water and non), and six heated cabins – some with kitchens including cooking and eating utensils, and bathrooms (linens not provided). Pets are not allowed in cabins, but are allowed at campsites when vaccination records are presented upon check-in. The large store offers all the essential camping items at a reasonable price, and even snacks that you won't usually find at a campground, like hot pizza and soft serve ice cream. Attached to the back of the store are a heated pool and a game room with billiards and arcade games. Laundry facilities are also available, as well as heated restrooms and free hot showers. There are two bathrooms – the one attached to the camp store (as well as the store itself, laundry facilities, pool, and game room) closes at 9 PM. Quiet hours begin at 10 PM and are strictly enforced. |
Activities This family-owned, family-friendly campground provides plenty of games to keep you occupied. Basketball, horse shoes, volley ball, badminton, and a playground are just a few of the recreational opportunities. Beech Hill also hosts hay rides, make your own sundaes, and meals for special events such as July 4th and Columbus Day. Hiking trails, river tubing, and fishing are also available on-site. The location also provides easy access to all the White Mountain area attractions. Check out http://www.beechhill.com/beechhill/attract.htm for more info. |
Dates and Rates, Negatives, Warnings Beech Hill is a seasonal campground, open from May 15th until October 15th. Campsite prices range from $29 to $39 per night, and cabins from $62.10 to $94.50, depending on amenities. A $20 deposit is required for each car: you will be given a gate card for access into the campground and will get your $20 back (in cash) when you check out and return the card. You can put this deposit on a credit card, but you will receive the deposit back in cash. The rates assume two people at a campsite: a visitors fee of $5 per adult and $2 per child applies for each additional overnight guest.
Negatives The pool and gameroom close at 9 PM, which we thought was a bit early (though probably not uncommon).
One of the pool rules is DO NOT SWIM ALONE. Now, I can understand the rule that children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult, but as an avid swimmer I was annoyed that I wasn't allowed to swim in a pool, 5 feet at its deepest, just because my friends didn't want to go swimming.
The 24-hour bathroom was being cleaned during two of our nighttime trips: we were asked to come back because the other bathroom was already closed for the night.
The bathrooms are located near the campground entrance and were quite a walk from our campsite.
Warnings As I mentioned, the quiet hour (10 PM) is strictly enforced. We were actually told by the campground owners one night around 11 PM that we were too loud (for the first time in my fifteen or so years of regular camping). Noise travels and you are probably being louder than you realize! |
