"Georgia" Georgia by JREllison

West of Chatworth, Georgia, a small town in the northwest part of Georgia a brick house seems appears as if out of nowhere. This brick home is one of the oldest remaining structures in northern third of the state of Georgia and its owners were leaders of the Cherokee Nation. James Vann, a member of the Cherokee Triumvirate, worked and fought hard for the money he used to build this house along the Old Federal Highway at Spring Place. The Vann's along with most of the Cherokees in this part of Georgia were forced out of the State in March, 1835.

Helen, Georgia

Helen, Georgia nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains on the Chattahoochee River, is a re-creation of an German or Austrian alpine village complete with cobblestone alleys and old-world towers. Before the Georgia Gold Rush this land belonged to the Cherokee Nation. Gold was discovered on Dukes Creek in Nacoochee Valley in 1828. and soon The Cherokees left the area on the “Trail of Tears”, and were replaced by white settlers.

Chickamunga Park headquarters

The battle of Chickamunga was more accident than intention. The thick forest limited visibility to 150 feet, less than the range of a rifle. Cannon were useless, except in the occasional field that broke the heavy forest. Battle lines did not exist and enlisted men made tactical decisions. Often the fighting was hand-to-hand. Both generals realized that neither would come out a clear winner under these conditions.

The Park is on the ridge over looking Chattanooga Tenn. There are many motels avaible at Chickamunga and at Chattanooga.
