TURKEY

by viajeromaga - last update: Sep 11, 2002

Turkey has been one of the most exciting countries I have ever been. All the aspects of Turkey captivated my attention.

The things that make Turkey an unique country is the mixture of cultures; by its geographical position (In the middle of 2 continents Europe and Asia), Turkey shares a touch of the mediterranean, Europe and Asia.

This is a country that belongs to the proud desdendants of a great past. The historical heritage of Turkey is amaizing because it goes back to the earliest traces of humankind in Asia Minor to what it is today. A country with modern views without leaving a side its ancentral cultural traditions.

Turkey has lived through many age periods. Begining from the Paleolithic Era (100.000 B.C.), then the Hitities (18 th -12th centuries B.C.), Persian invasion (7th B.C.) Hellenistic Age (334 B.C.), the Roman Empire, followed by the Seldjuks, Ottomans and finally the Turkish Republic. When you visit Turkey you can find every archeological site form the different periods; some of then remain intact for the world to admire while others just remain as a remainer that once there was a great civilization. created by great people that evolved into a much developed and revolucionary period.

Among all the turkish cities, the most magical, exciting and interesting is the city of Istanbul.

Istanbul is a mixture of different themes. Is a leading metropolis for culture, art, history, trade and business.

Istanbul throughout the centuries was the center of attractions for several states, and empires. Istanbul displays the most beautiful monuments from Roman and Byzantine Times next to the best works of the Turkish Islamic Age. Istanbul, like many other cities in world, is an open - air museum.

I Just can find sufficient words to describe what I felt upon my arrival in Turkey. This trip was special for me because I met the most amaizing friends from Spain, whom I am greatly thankful for their friendship which helped me to discover much deeply this wonderful country. I would go back to Turkey as many times as I can.
