I highly recommend you take the time to go over to Cousin Island for a tour of the nature preserve there. Landing on the island is a blast in itself. Boats are literally launched up on the sand at full-speed from the water. The captain picks up the motor just in time for you to arrive on the island and jump out of the boat without getting your feet wet! There are birds all over the place (Fairy Terns, Magpie Robins, and Tropic Birds) and they aren't afraid of humans in the least bit. We also saw a lot of skinks, lizards and hermit crabs. The tour guides are very friendly and live on the island to study the birds. The tour was very informative and a great way to see the natural habitat of the Seychelles.

If you're looking for a place of quiet solitude with some of the most amazing, unspoiled beaches, Bird Island is the place! Bird is one of the most beautiful islands from a pure "relax and enjoy" perspective. There isn't much to do other than kick back, explore, and read a good book!

Off The Beaten Path: Curieuse Island

Hiking on Curieuse Island is quite an experience. On one side, you have the Doctor's House where Doctor MacGregor treated his leprosy patients and on the other side, you'll visit the tortoise preserve. The hike is relatively easy although the trail is a little rough in areas. I was able to hike it in flip-flops without too much of a problem. During the hike, you'll walk through a mangrove forest and get to see some pretty spectacular views of the ocean. The beach near the doctor's house is beautiful. In fact, I thought it was one of the nicest beaches in all of the Seychelles although unless you're there with a group to BBQ, the facilities are very limited. There are no stores on the island.
