Ihlara Travel Guide: 21 reviews and 60 photos

Very new city...

Aksaray has been a religious center since the early times of Christianity and the city was located on the "Silk Road". It's also now located on the many road connections... It takes 3 hours from Ankara by bus and many mountclimber&trekking lovers go there very often....

Ihlara Valley (Peristrema Gorge)

The Valley's total distance is 14 km. There are 3 entrance to the Valley. Ihlara entrance, Belisirma Entrance and Selimiye Entrance. Most populer entrance is the Ihlara Entrance. You reach to the ground of the valley by climbing down over 300 stairs. Then follow the stream "Melendiz" which runs throughout the valley and you'll see the churches on the rocks which belong to early times of Christianity. It takes almost 7-8 hours to walk all of the Valley, but you can quit in Belisirma Village (3-4 hours).

Agacalti Church-Under tree church

There are about 105 churches but "Agacalti Church-Under tree church" is the most preserved one.
