Tarragona was first occupied by the Romans in 218 BC but was made the capital of the Tarraconensis province, by Augustus, in 27 BC. Tarragona was abandoned in AD 714 when the Muslims arrived.
Lots of Roman ruins to see and everything seems to be at a cost of 2.50 Euros!
My opinion of Tarragona is that most of the sights can be seen in a day. On my travels I did not find the need for more than one night here.
The main street is Rambla Nova and there are plenty of eateries here from Spanish to Japanese... it is a modern boulevard which runs all the way o the clifftop where you can look out across the Mediterranean Sea.
