Khulna is the industrial town of Bangladesh. Though now most of the industries are closed. The only Newsprint mill and hardboard mill was in Khulna. The shipyard, textile mill, lots of jute mills (Peoples jute mill, crescent jute mill, Star jute mill etc). Now it is famous for its Sea fish industry and earn lot of foreign exchanges. Most of the jute and fish industry is around the Rupsha ( going forward named as, Vairob) river.
There is bridge, inagurated in 2005, towards Mongla port and Bagerhat.. . then new Dhaka highway, worth visit.
The main attraction of visiting Khulna is visiting the Sundarban. This is a UNESCO heritage forest, living place of the Royal Bengal Tiger (me :-). Also there are lots of cheeky spotted Deers and our forefather Monkeys. If you go in winter, you can see fisherman catching fishes and drying them to make 'Shutki'.
The mongla port and great Sundarban is 30 mins journey by bus from Khulna City. Main bust terminal is Sonadaga. Don't forget to mark Khajura/Lokpur in the way, thats my home place, where I was born and lived my boyhood.
You can also go by river cruise, offered by Hotel Royal and Western Inn. That is a very good journey and guided tour. In that case you have 2/3 days in hand.
Khulna University, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Khulna Medical College and Hospital, Khulna Polytechnich Institute. Khulna B.L. College.
The river side of vairab and Ruhpsha. Take boat trip in the river.
You can go to Bagerhat, nearby district, 30 mins journey by bus. The 'Shat Gombuj Mosjid' and Majar of Peer Khan Jahan Ali are there.
- Pros:Nice, less crowded city. People are very much friendly.
- Cons:You may taste the water salty, humidity high.
Lots of luxury coaches go to Khulna from Dhaka, the capital. Eagle, Hanif and Shohagh Paribahan (Transports) are some of... more travel advice
