Misis

As an ancient town constructed by the Romans, Misis can be an attraction for a traveller. Especially the ancient bridge on the river Ceyhan has a great historical value.

it is told that the prophet Lokman finds the formula of immortality, and he drops the letter into the river, from this bridge :)

the local drink "Ayran" made up of yoghurt should be tasted in Misis, since the place is famous for its Ayran.

Address: on the way to Ceyhan

Directions: Misis is on the way to Ceyhan, and Hatay (if the highway is not used), and almost 50 km away from the center of Adana.

The Stone Bridge

Built by the Romans, the stone bridge remains still, and also is used for about 20 centuries. the bridge is one of the ways of getting to the other side of the legendary river, Seyhan.

Address: the city center

Directions: it is almost impossible for one who passes through Adana to see it, unless you use the highway.

"ya latif", meaning "the beautiful and naive"

The old Bazaars and Shops

for especially those, who are interested in photography; the old city center may be a generous source of beautiful portraits.

here in the old part of the city, one can see many a century old Ottoman houses, craftsmen working on traditional arts and works; tiny shops of clothes and copper tools and the narrow streets also can provide the traveller with so called exotic views.

Directions: fortunately; the old city is in the city center, and it is near to many other attraciton points like Grand Mosque, Clock Tower, Central mosque, Stone Bridge, Yag Mosque and the best Kebab restaurants.

the great gate of Grand Mosque - Adana Ili

the great gate of Grand Mosque

The Grand Mosque (Ulu Cami)

The Grand Mosque, was built in the first half of 17th century, by a local feudal lord of Ramazanogullari.

It resembles the architectural style of Seljukides, and especially the gate and minaret (a tower for calls of prayer) of this mosque is worth seeing.

In its outside garden, is the tomb of Ziya Pasa, who was an important Ottoman politician and poet.

Directions: The city center of Adana, where a traveler can come up with many local shops, craftsmen and restaurants.

It is on your left, when you take a small walk from the city center, using the way of the Clock Tower to the Stone Bridge.

the Central Mosque from the central park - Adana Ili

the Central Mosque from the central park

The Central Mosque

The largest of all mosques in Turkey was built in 20 years, and the construction ended in 1998, with the help of famous Turkish bourguoisse; Sakip Sabanci.

It changed all the skyline of the city, and for most of the visitors; it is the major attraction of the city. On the other hand, the architecture of the mosque does not suggest much difference, so if you have seen the mosques in Ýstanbul or Edirne; it may be useless to have a look at the same (!) mosque again.

Address: The city center

Directions: It is on the shore of river Seyhan, and next to the Sabanci Cultural and Conventional Center.

The Archeological Museum

The trace of several civilizations can be seen here, in the city Museum. some sculptures and marble tombs from the Hittite, Hellenistic and Roman eras may be interesting.

A visitor can also see some etnographical and cultural heritage of Turkish states, Seljukides and Ottomans in this museum.

There is almost nothing to see in the "Ethnographical Museum", so it is enough to have a look at the Archeological museum to have a glimpse abput the Ancient history of the city in your mind.

Directions: It is very close to the Sabanci Central Mosque, and the central park.
