From the Philippines to Dayton, Ohio! | The Museum of Flight in Dayton, Ohio |
I came here on July 27, 1990 and I was seven months pregnant of Shelby, my first daughter. I left a few days after the deadliest earthquake in the Philippines. My heart was heavy as I left my sisters in Baguio not knowing how they were. I just relied on the news all day and from tourists I met in Manila.
Due to my homesickness and my situation, I never enjoyed Dayton, Ohio. I pulled a muscle on my left leg while running out of the hotel in Manila. Just imagine me running while I was seven months pregnant! I was in the lobby of the Pension Natividad in Manila with my father and my brother Silverio when all of a suddent the chandelier above us started to sway. My brother screamed: "Earthquake!"
Forgetting that I was pregnant, he pulled me from a sitting position and rushed me to the door outside and to the streets! The running and pulling traumatized me. I pulled a muscle that everytime I took a step, the baby's head bump my left side, seemed like. That lasted for the next three months. I went to the doctor but that didn't help. I could hardly walk. (My brother never knew this as I never told him). This maybe the reason why, I never enjoyed Dayton, Ohio, although I lived here for over three months.
But, don't think about me. Just visit Dayton, Ohio, anyway. There are good places to see in Dayton, Ohio. |
