Paris for 5 months

by crodri1 - last update: Apr 5, 2007

Moving to Paris

We found out in early December that dh had an opportunity to take a position in Paris, France. We both immediately agreed that we couldn't pass up the chance and quickly decided to take the position and start informing the family. We officially moved to Paris on January 9, 2007 and moved into our apartment 2 weeks later.

Living in Paris

From the beginning, we knew living in Paris would be a challenge. Neither of us know French and neither of us had ever been to France. However, we honestly did not fully understand how hard it would be to live here with a small child. Parisians are not mean to children, nor are they necessarily rude to Americans. It is just a completely different culture and its been hard to adjust. Overall, however, we are enjoying our stay here and feel that we are learning a lot about the city and the country. We have also fallen in love with the pastries and the traditional french food.

Having a small child really does give you a different perspective on a place. I had nearly forgotten all that, but now have two grandsons (2 years and 2 months old). Glad you found a good carrousel for your son.
