Visiting Tampa

by KrisKaden - last update: Apr 3, 2007

I took this photo at Honeymoon Island last year.

Tampa's Beaches

Although Tampa itself does not have any beaches (save the little piles of dirt on either side of the causeway) neighboring St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and Dunedin all have gorgeous beaches around half an hour away.

History and Culture

I don't think that Tampa is often considered a really "historical" city, but there are a lot of fun things for history buffs (like myself) to do here. The H.B. Plant Museum (The Old Tampa Bay Hotel) has an interesting exhibit that describes the history of Tampa and the old hotel. The Florida International Museum in St. Petersburg offers popular national touring exhibitions. There are also some Seminole Indian war battlefields for military historians.

Art lovers will not be left wanting here either. In addition to the Salvador Dali, Tampa Museum of Art, and Ringling Museum in Sarasota, Tampa and many of the smaller towns around it have fascinating artistic communities.

Nightlife

Tampa and its neighboring cities offer a plethora of exciting nightlife. For those who are not faint of heart Historic Ybor City has all sorts of different clubs, bars, and restaurants. The new Channelside district downtown has many self contained restaurants and bars. The beaches all have their own bars and clubs... there is truly something for everyone here.
