My name is Kristin and I am, believe it or not, a 7th generation Tampanian. I'm a rare breed as most of the people who live in Florida come from somewhere else. My great-great-great-grandfather enlisted to fight in the Civil War at Fort Brooke, which is now a parking garage in downtown Tampa.

The picture to the right is of Lake Hollingsworth in Lakeland, Florida, which was named for one of my ancestors.

I'm 24 years old, and am in graduate school at the University of South Florida. My undergraduate work was in History so I love spending time at museums and archives. I've lived in Tampa almost all of my life, and am very proud of the city and my roots here. There is a lot more to Florida and Tampa than just beaches.

Given that I stayed in Tampa for college, I'm pretty familiar with Tampa nightlife and the bar scene. I've never really been much for clubs, but if its a good martini bar, pool hall, or brewery you're looking for I'll surely have the answer.

A little bit about my vacationing habits... If I'm going to the beach I want to find a nice secluded one where I can settle in for a picnic or read a book. If I'm traveling abroad somewhere I like to run around like crazy during the day and see as much as I can, and then find a nice pub or corner cafe for my evenings.

Most of my trips are based around my genealogical research... my family has lead me to so many interesting places!

I am new to virtual tourist. I'm planning a trip to England this summer as I have a wedding to attend there (Yay!) and I have found so much information on VT, that I would like to repay the favor and put up some tips for people coming to Tampa.
