A Vibrant Princess Thessaloniki is not my birth town but i love her as a human being. As every big city, she has her good and bad moments, the usual problems that like the traffic or the polution, but has two major advantages that overwhelm all the cons, her people and the sea. Being born in an island is almost impossible to be able to live in a town without sea. Her inhabitants, younger and older, are very vibrant. Both men and women are well dressed even if they go for a coffee, ok there are and some exceptions but, as Greeks say, they certify the rule. The people are friendly and helpful, the great majority of them speaks at least one language and they will be glad to help you, if you ask so. There are two universities and a lot of students. The culture and the spirituality of the inhabitants are well known all over Greece. Cultural events take place constantly, film festival occurs every year and as a result there a continuasly conversion of spirit. Drinking coffee, mainly on the waterfront in something that people do almost with religious constancy. Food and clubbing is a must do in Thessaloniki. |
Paralia (The seaside) If the weather is good you will see alot of people, of all ages, walking at the seaside enjoing their walk. |
Film Festival of Thessaloniki First held in 1960 as a modest "Week of Greek Cinema", the Thessaloniki International Film Festival has become, 41 years later, an annual event focused on the discovery and promotion of new directors from all over the world; a true celebration of film. For ten days in mid-November, audiences numbering approximately 70,000, as well as hundreds of Greek and foreign Festival guests, attend screenings of more than 150 films in the city's cinemas. Newcomers in the competitive section meet veteran filmmakers whose work is celebrated through retrospectives and special screenings. All films are screened before the young, vital, cinema-loving Thessaloniki audience, while in the Festival's parallel events, such as concerts and art exhibitions, cinema is brought together with the other arts. The Festival assumed its present dynamic, international character in 1992, under the direction of Michel Demopoulos, with the financial support of the Greek Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Municipality of Thessaloniki and other local institutions, and with the unanimous support of the city's population. |
