My Dad and I did a 3 day bike tour of the C&O Canal and W&OD bike trail. A full days ride from Washington, DC will put you in Sandy Hook, Maryland. Sandy Hook is an old railroad stop town right along the Canal across the Potomac from Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.
