Take a Boat or a plane that floats!

From Key West you no longer have a choice of ferry Boats. The Yankee Freedom II is the only choice unless you want to charter a boat. YF II leaves key west at 8 AM and get you back at 5:30 or so. If you have a sailboat come out and drop the hook for a week or so. The Seaplanes are back in business with a new company now as of May 2010.

Many a Cuban refugee has made it ashore at the Dry Tortugas. Here are just three Chugs impounded by the NPS. Chugs are homemade boats with makeshift automotive diesel engines in them. They pack 12 to 16 people into these small barely seaworthy boats.
