When staying in Alexandria city the vacation home way, if air quality is important, I would suggest renting a place in the following neighborhoods.

Montaza
Mamoura
Moustafa Kamel - the military apartments

These areas have green space and sea breezes which are two important ingredients for air good air quality. It was hard breathing in other areas of the city. The North Coast of Alexandria is nice also with the open spaces and sea breezes away from the city traffic jams, but it is practically deserted in the winter.

We have a city light veiw and some blue water view from the balcony.

Mamoura is a neighborhood next to Montaza

Mamoura is one of the few neighborhoods you can breath fresh air in Alexandria. Mamoura is surrounded by greenspaces, the Kings gardens, small farm plots, and the Sea. The air is very different here than the inner city or along the city beach hiway.
