You here a lot about Venice, it is true! It is romantic, packed, medieval city, with lots of water. I never thought you could walk through Venice, but you can it is a very walkable city. We enjoyed however traveling the canals. The city lives on the tourist industry, it is expensive, and crowded during the day. Those bad things being said, the city was a wonderful place, with construction and archeticture helping this city stay a float there really is nothing like it. The seafood was good, I had cuttlefish for the first time. I have never seen so much seafood available as it was in the Rialto Fishmarket. Note to self, travel the coasts more! The city is expensive, and the service and cover charges at resturants can be really really high. You have to be very careful about it otherwise your bill will be like sky high, and that isnt cool most of the time. |
| | Sightsceneing in Venice Doge's Palace, St Marks Square and Basilica, and a whole slew of museums and churchs Venice is full of stuff to do. For my cousin and I, shopping, getting lost, feeding the pigeons, seeing more art than we could handle, and of course taking siestas was nessesary. Venice is very crowded, I cant understate that, it is CROWDED. Well at least the major centers of the city are crowded, and mostly only during the day with peak times from 9am- around 8pm. Once the worst of the crowd is gone, the city is much less stressful. We tended to take siestas from 2-4 after we got lunch and before we were ready for a dinner snack. We found that by noon the city was to crowded for us in some areas, and after around 3-4 or so the crowds had been easier to deal with. Rest, and quiet places are important. |
| | Colors and Masks Venice has a lot of color, masks, gold, tourist stuff, and glass are all over and make for an overwhelming mixture of life. Add the art, the lion of Venice, and the costant strain of salt water Venice is like no other. If you are wondering why a lion is the symbol of the island, it is because it represents St Mark. Whose symbol is a lion. |
