Entrance from East Coast Parkway - Singapore

Entrance from East Coast Parkway

Southeast Asia's Longest Expressway

Singapore has just set another record - Southeast Asia's longest underground tunnel. The Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) is 12 kilometres long, where 9 kilometres are sited underground. Opened on 20 Sep 08, the KPE cuts through the Singapore's two other expressways, namely Pan Island Expressway (PIE) and East Coast Parkway (ECP).

It's a pretty smooth drive. Why? The newspapers kept drumming into us that there're more than a handful of speed cameras within the tunnel. The speed limit has been set at 70 km/h. I was telling my wife that it was truly one of my slowest drive on local expressways (Speed limit for normal expressways are kept at 90km/h). Still, driving along the tunnel proved to be a pretty exhilarating experience!

Train Line at Bukit Timah - Singapore

Train Line at Bukit Timah

Let's Talk About Trains

In 1902, the railroads in Singapore used to link Bukit Timah and Woodlands to the city. Then in 1923, a railway line linked Singapore directly to Johore via the Woodlands causeway.

That was more than 100 years ago and I had the opportunity to visit the Bukit Timah Railway Station twice. Getting to the station, one must hit the dirt track. You can vaguely see the train station from the main road.

Nostalgia engulfed me once I stepped into the train station. Location signages read in malay rather than english - Singapura. Gambier plantation owners and their workers would have stood at this train station, waiting for the train to bring them into town.

The railway station still looks authentic and have weathered the change of the century well. Walking along the railway line also brought me to a small bridge that should be decades old.

Check Out the Primates - Singapore

One of the Top 10 Best Family Experience Singapore Zoological Gardens & Night Safari Review

Where can you go with your children when you're in Singapore to stop them from fidgeting? Well, the zoo for sure is one good place to start with.

My family usually visit the zoo 4-5 times a year because one thing I learnt was that most kids are intrigue by the animals, and that's how I keep my little girl occupied. Monkeys swinging from one tree to another, roaring tigers, movement of the dominant elephants, just so many things for her to keep her eyes on.

The Columns of City Hall - Singapore

The Columns of City Hall

Singapore's City Hall Supreme Court & City Hall Review

One of the more iconic buildings in Singapore, the City Hall is a location where some wedding couples will head to for their photo session. Built in 1929, the building has a strong historical significance. It was at these very steps that the Japanese surrendered to the British. This marked the end of World War II for Singapore.

It also saw the first ever National Day celebration in 1966 where the steps were demarcated as a VIP seating area. The seating area provided a good view of the parade that was held at the Padang, or the field in front of the City Hall.
