Rabat is a Small town just outside Mdina. The name of the village is derived from the Arabic word for 'suburb', as it was the suburb of the old capital Mdina. Half of the present day town would also have formed part of the Roman city of Melita, before the latter was resized during the Arab occupation and Mdina's town walls which would have reached to St Pauls Church, moved to their present position making the town much more defensible

Gareth, lovely little page about Rabat here. We also visited it for a few hours and for some reason also noticed the little kiosk that sells local cakes and snacks next to the church.

Nice page! We could see Rabat from Mdina, but did not get to visit there. I have never heard of the catacombs there until I read your page. Great photos!

Haha, that land train pic looks like the one on my Mumbles page...without the deep blue skies ;-) It's a lovely looking place, I might go and count the birds after all! Can't wait to read about the Catacombs...
