Nightlife Spot: Ammos Bar (Gouves)
After being shown to our rooms and unpacking it was about 02:00 am but we were not that tired so we decided to go for a walk to see if there were any bars open nearby, a short walk brought us to the sea front and to various bars and tavernas which were still open. After walking along the front we were enticed into this bar by the Greek music. The bar still had a few Greek men sat around it talking and singing along to the likes of Notis Sfakianakis. We had a couple of small draught Heinekens which were €2.5 each and nibbled on the peanuts and sunflower seeds that were provided. A great friendly atmosphere here.

Nightlife Spot: CAFETERIA DESMARIA (Gouves)
Walking up towards the top end of the main shopping St we called in this bar because our eye was caught by a sea life program on 1 of the 3 TV’s. There were only a few people in and they were sat outside. The lady who served us was very friendly as all Cretans have been and the seating is very comfortable and at €3 for a large beer it was not too expensive. There are some great smoothies on the menu to.

Nightlife Spot: The Bull (Gouves)
The Bull is a rock pub on the way around the back of Gouves (go up the main St to the Chinese restaurants and turn right, Keep walking and it’s on your right) they have live music Saturday, Sunday's and Wednesdays. Good atmosphere friendly staff (The bar maid is English and has been living and working on Crete for the last 7 years) Prices of drinks are average and the measures are large. They also throw a couple of free shots your way when they get chance. Well worth a visit even if Rock music is not really your thing.

Nightlife Spot: ARMIDA Bar, (Agios Nikolaos)
You can not miss the Armida bar as it’s the Pirate ship moored in the small harbour near the Tourist Office. We called on board for a drink as it is open during the day as well as at night. it's well worth a visit just for the photo opportunity. The Drinks were not expensive (about average price)

Nightlife Spot: Bar Klio
The hotel bar is open to all and is about average price €3 for a large beer and €2 for a coke. They could do with a few more CD’s though because they only seem to have 2 or 3FootBall is on a large screen. but normaly just music videos (from Poland) were on. We always stopped in for at least one before heading out for our dinner, and if the bar is still open on our way back we might call in again.

Reading your tips I wish I hadn't now! | MikeBird Thu Jul 2, 2009 21:53 UTC Interesting re the bars on unfinished houses. We were told the same story about all the unfinished houses in Cairo. The bars are there for the next stage of the house building - for the kids apartments! Mike |
