Pompeii Pompei Review

Pompeii is easy to get to from Sorrento either on an organised excursion or by just jumping on the train. Making your own way there is far better as you are not limited by time, We spent 7 hours walking around and we still did not cover all of it.

Opening times:

November - March - every day from 8.30 am to 5 pm. (last admission 3.30 p.m.)

April - October- every day from 8.30 am. to 7.30 pm (last admission 6 p.m.)

Closed: January 1st, May 1st , December 25th

Entrance to Pompeii, Herculaneum is e11.00 and entrance to the museum at naples is e9.00
For visitors from Euopean countries under 18 years of age and over 65 years entrance is free but You must have evidence of age (i.e a passport) with you, visitors between 18 and the day before their 25th birthday entrance is half price. but ONLY IF RESIDENT IN EUROPE.. Various other passes ect can be purchased at various prices (3 day passes to all 5 ancient sites (Herculaneum, Pompeii, Oplontis, Stabiae, Boscoreale) are e20.00

Herculaneum Herculaneum Review

Pompeii was the most fantastic thing i had seen untill i went to herculanium. It is simply amazing (and thankfully a lot smaller than Pompeii). It is very easy to get to from sorrento. Just get the Circumvesuviana train and get off at Eculano. when you come out of the station it is just a short walk (less than 10 minutes) to the bottom of the road opposite the station and the entrance is straight facing you. you can not go wrong as it is sign posted all the way.

Marina Grande Marina Grande Review

Beaches are a rarity near Sorrento because of the cliffs But there are a few, the best by far is at Marina Grande, a small fishing village that has now become a part of Sorrento. There are some nice Shops, bars and Restaraunts there and it's a lovely place to take a stroll or relax in a bar and take in the Lovely views or watch the local fishermen.

Bathing Platforms

Beaches are a rarity near Sorrento because of the cliffs (although there is a nice one in town at Marina Grande), Were the cliffs are there are steps down (sometimes a lift) and large bathing platforms stretch out into the sea. There is normaly a charge for using them

The whole Sorrento peninsula is fantastic for photography. There is an opportunity which ever way you look. You just can not take enough Pictures.

take a Tour on the Sorrento 'City Train' Piazza Tasso Review

In Piazza Tasso you can wait for and get on a White 'train' which takes you on a tour around Sorrento town. The price is 6 Euro and you recive ear phones (in a sealed packet) which you plug into the socket for your prefered language and you will recive a full commentary during you tour. It's great for people who are not good at walking or if you have small children.

The train stops in Piazza Tasso tickets can be purchased from the stand were the train stops (next to the gorge)
