"FREEPORT on Grand Bahama Island" Freeport District by CJD68

Planned a 1 day round trip cruise from Ft. Lauderdale, FL to Freeport, Grand Bahama Island. Due to unfortunate circumstances, our cruise ship was delayed on leaving FL. When we finally arrived on the island, we had less than 2 hours to explore before the ship departed again.

Grabbed a mini-bus taxi with a small group of people also doing the round-trip. We raced from the port and drove past some of the new casino/hotel construction sites, finally stopping at the International Bazaar. As (bad) luck would have it, most of the stores were closed in honor of Boxing Day. Mostly we window shopped and looked around before driving to a nearby beach so we could walk in the sand and stick our feet in the ocean.

Just that quick, it was time to load everyone back on the bus and speed to the ship. From the top deck, we enjoyed an adult fruity drink and watched the island as the sun set.

• Pros:Warm weathe, fresh ocean breeze and soft sand beach.
• Cons:We didn't have enough time.....
• In a nutshell:What Island living is supposed to be.
