4 days in Rome

Rome overview

two things you will see everywhere in Rome
having seen other cities in Italy such as Greve and Florence, Rome doesnt give you that "old world" italian feel... even though some of the oldest roman monuments and buildings are found in Rome, it is actually a fairly modern city.. complete with a McDonalds across from the Roman Pantheon.. of all the places i have been, the public transportation was the least efficient and the food was the worst.. that being said, the food was incredible, it just wasnt as good as other places in italy... as far as famous sights to see, literally everything you need to see can be seen in two days... we attempted to take a metro train from outer Lazio to the vatican and ended up in southern Rome about 6 miles away thanks to a terribbly inaccurate map from our hotel... as luck would have it, i had seen several maps of historic Rome so combined with a pictographic memory and a great sense of direction i suggested that instead of trying to figure out another bus route, we should just start walking north and see what we run into.. i dont suggest this method unless you can handle walking more than 10 miles/day...
my first taste of Roman history

Arc of Constantine and the Coliseum

so after 30 minutes of walking through a residential neighborhood and past a soccer field, we rounded a corner and were stunned with a magnificent sight of the Arc of Constantine marking the south-east corner of the Roman Forum (my most anticipated destination in rome)...and of course to the immediate right of the arc sits the Coliseum... it was by far the most surreal thing to be greeted by after walking through what looked like any other city apartment complex in the US.. even though we were there in mid-March the line to get into the Colisseum was rather long... although not as long as some horror stories i read about.. we waited about an hour in line until we were let inside.. in retrospect this was a good thing because they do regulate the number of people they let in so once inside, it was not crowded at all.. in fact i only have a couple pictures of the interior with another tourist in my way...

Pros:"Jaw-dropping historical monuments and buildings"
Cons:"don't expect the "old world" italian charm in Rome"
In A Nutshell:"a surreal mixture of modern city life and Roman history"
