I am really glad I did my research before going to Paris, because, for some reason, it is a uniformly awful city for hostels. Everything I had heard or read about the Paris' hostels reviews did not arouse me at all: human body fluids and dehydratated insects' carapaces on your bedding, filthy showers full of molds, rat/mouses traps in the bedrooms, complete lack of security, run down buildings...Lucky Youth is clearly an exception.
I was there for a week, sharing a small flat with 5 other people. We all came from a diferent country: Sweden, US, Norway, Australia, Latvia(I am myself from Milano in Italy)). We really had a GREAT time, to say the less...OK, maybe it was only for one week but what we gave to each other, nobody will ever take it from us. Well, too much talking about Love. Let's talk about the accomodation by itself:
We had a free internet in the flat (there was a computer), a kitchen, a TV, a bathroom, bunk beds. Basically, you enjoy the benefits of staying in a private flat, yet paying the rates of a budget hostel. Maybe the flat is not that big but it was enough to fit the 6 of us.
The apartment I stayed in is old and seconds walk to the moulin rouge, in the area of Montmartre: very lively. The true Paris.
I really appreciated the security service that check if everyone is in the right place, which means you are sure to know people who are not guests of lucky youth will not try and enter.
As for the check in system, it is also unique: you don't arrive at where you're staying but instead phone them once you're in Paris; they then give you directions and a meeting point. From there you meet the representatives, who walks you to the apartment, and shows you around personally. This gives a sense of security.
I highly recommend this unique place and now I understand why it is so popular.
Hakan, Brad, Sofia, Elena, Brigitte, I'm sure that we will meet again someday, somewhere.
