    • Not as many tourists visit the Dingle Peninsula, but it's well worth the drive. The scenery is stunning (although there aren't many places in Ireland where you could say otherwise). Dingle is County Kerry's 'other' peninsula -- somehow seems more rustic and more traditionally Irish, perhaps because the Irish language is spoken here more often than many other places in Ireland.

    • Another stop on the Dingle Peninsula should be to see the Gallarus Oratory -- a beehive hut built of unmortared stone, and one of the best preserved early Christian church buildings in the country (well over 1,000 years old).

    • The town of Cahir is not far from Cashel but bypassed by most tourists. The town has some lovely views and is dominated by the Cahir Castle. The castle dates from the 13th century and is one of Ireland's largest. It's also in great shape as its occupants surrendered to Cromwell in 1650 without a fight.
