I would recommend Isaacs Hostel. It is a modern hostel with it's own Cafe/Snack Bar - decent coffee - internet access, courtyard with tables where you can smoke etc. they also have double rooms without a bathroom however.
this hostel is just right opposite the Central Bus station 'Busaras'.

this area is not safe at night and it is advisable, especially if you are on your own, to take a taxi, and ask the taxi driver to remain there until you have entered and closed the door behind you!
