Jasper has a little less hustle and bustle than Banff. It is a much smaller town. I have found that there is more wildlife that appears near the roadside while entering Jasper from the west and in the park than in Banff. So far we have seen lots of elk, big horn sheep, some kind of goat, nutcracker bird, some strange type of pheasant, pika, and a coyote/wolf (not sure which one, but wasn't a fox). I have yet to see a black bear, that day may come soon.
We saw a group of goats licking the salt (or dirt) off of the car in front of us that had stopped to take pictures at the layoff near the overlook of medicine lake. |

Well Done - from Mike Starr5 in the forgotten suburb of London - historic "Barking Town" | 36waterfalls Thu Nov 8, 2007 14:32 UTC Love this page! as I love hiking too. Very good tips, and some truly stunning pics. Great stuff on Local Customs ;-) Thanks for the tour! Linda | Bwana_Brown Fri Sep 28, 2007 12:26 UTC Gorgeous photos of your trail walks, especially that hike to see the glacier! Those pyramids are actually called 'Inukshuk' - a type of communication marker originally used by northern Inuit people but now common all over Canada. A well-written page! | Ann75 Thu Sep 6, 2007 05:50 UTC Hi MJ! Great tips and beautiful photos on this Jasper page. It is a touristy area, so they don't expect people to dress up and I am surprised you didn't see anybody in shorts and short sleeves...quite common as well...hahaha! Crazy Canadians, eh? |
